"My first camera was a Brownie Hawkeye. I loved taking photos of my family and was always fascinated with family photo albums and their documentation of life in the moment. While raising my 4 children I found a creative outlet in textiles but I have now returned to my love of photography. The intimacy of the relationship between photographer and subject, however brief, is important to my work. I create both in my darkroom and digitally but work mainly with film as I find it to yield richer results. My self-taught style is photo-journalism and what I like to call "un-portraiture". I search for life's little absurdities. Odd things capture my attention. I have a particular fondness for people, children especially. One may also feel a theme of loneliness throughout my work both with human subjects, and other inanimate objects. The cameras that I currently use are the Mamiya 645M, Voightlander rangefinders, Pentax LX and a variety of medium format inexpensive cameras, including the Brownie Hawkeye, Holga and Diana. Music inspires my mood, deep and moving like Edith Piaf or Billie Holiday, or upbeat like Big Joe Turner or Dr. John. I am an old fashioned Jersey girl but have lived in the Philly area since 1975"

C. Edmund Miller uses toy cameras and vintage cameras to create a surreal and vintage storytelling mood to his photographs. He contrasts opposing realities in his street photography and, using the holga toy camera combined with high speed film, creates a dreamlike memory in his fine art portraits

The Mummer Parade : The Mummer's Parade is a peculiar Philly phenomenon. It traces back to mid-17th century roots, blending elements from Swedish, Finnish, Irish, English, German and other European heritages, as well as African-American heritage. The parade is related to the Mummers Play tradition from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Revivals of this tradition are still celebrated annually in South Gloucestershire, England on Boxing Day and in parts of Ireland on St. Stephen's Day. You can read more about it at Wikipedia which is, frankly, where I got this information. I am never disappointed by the absurdity of it all.
